Shadowhunters: First Thoughts

If you haven't assumed by now that I'm an avid reader then  ermm...
Possibly my favourite book series is The Mortal Instruments by Cassandra Clare so now that the show has been adapted into a TV series then I figure hey lets talk about it every so often.

Lily and Jamie in the film version
After the film release with Lily Collins and Jamie Campbell Bower having not too much success the film series was shut down, however it did bring together the most beautiful couple Jamily. Nada. No. Much to the devastation of some like myself. At the time I didn't really get why because I hadn't read the books, after I had read the books I was enlightened.
I still am obsessed with the film. As an audience sometimes we have to accept that the details aren't going to be a carbon copy but in that film I admit a lot of context was missed.

Shadowhunters

I have to admit during the first two episodes I wasn't sure how I felt. Not so much about the details (I do think some things could be more accurate but it's not going to be the same of course) more the actors getting into the role. NO. I am not criticising, actually I love the cast but for me it just felt like in those first two episodes it was like they hadn't hmmm embraced the role yet- are you on my wave length? However, now we've seen the 4th episode I really love it and I'm over that whole thing (how could you not forgive the beauty that is Dominic Cooper?!) but sometimes I do find it's a bit melodramatic.

Mise en Scene

So, as we probably expected some of the settings are on point and some aren't. The technology in the institute that at first I wasn't overly keen on, mulling over this though I can completely understand it- it makes sense being set in a modern 21st century, my heads probably still in the steam punk Victorian era of The Clockwork Series AKA The Infernal Devices...

*SPEAKING OF THIS DID WE ALL HERE MAGNUS SAY TESSA'S NAME IN THIS WEEKS EPISODE OH GOSH*

....Huh ermmm now the stele's do make me think of a toy light saber running out of battery, what I am loving is those moments when Jace is doing a Ghost (as in Patrick and Demi) and teaching Clary how to use the stele's. Being on episode 4 now actually they're improving but maybe that's actual improvements or just me not being as fussy.

Getting their stele on
Clary's home I loved in the first episode, it was beautiful. On the other hand...what happened to the shop being Luke's and what's the whole Luke being a police officer thing. I don't object to it but it'll have to grow on me.

The downworlder clubs and settings I really think are on point. Badass clubbing guys. I can't begin to explain how much I want to just go to Pandemonium- fictional life suits me the most. Super looking forward to exploring the seelie court though, after Isabelle's little detour in episode 3.

Cast and characters

Really not going to talk about these right now because I think I want to do a post on each character and the cast member. This subject will probably have a cast comparison too, for now a cast picture will do....
Left to right: Alec, Magnis, Clary, Jace, Isabelle, Luke and Simon

Future Posts

Soooo, you can pretty much expect some character/cast posts but not so much an opinion or eposide review every week.

For now, practice your ruins, re watch, maybe even re-read or read the books themselves!
