Meeting Connor Franta
Wednesday, May 27, 2015
If you follow YouTube then you might watch or have heard of Connor Franta, an American vlogger. internet personality and as of April 21st this year a published writer. With over 4.4 million subscribers and a TCA for choice web star under his belt Connor's life has considerably changed in the years since he started his channel.
In the past couple of days Connor has been in the UK promoting his debut book 'A Work in Progress' on a book tour, I was lucky enough to meet him today at one of his signings with my friends Joel, Morg and Lau, we waited for at least an hour probably a bit more outside of waterstones with a bunch of other fans; we seen a lot of girls in tears, clearly very overwhelmed that Connor's face was quote 'so much more perfect in person' it was really quite amusing.
When we got into the actual store we were given our book and poster had then we had to wait a bit longer in the cue (photo on the left) but then we finally got to meet him! It was quite quick for each person, unsurprisingly it was my phone that the staff couldn't work- but lucky enough they did take pictures on Joel's phone. So happy. Connor was really nice! Yes, he is much cuter in person as well as that his voice was so much deeper in person like not as high as you'd expect!
Pretty sure this was our conversation:

Connor: Hi, how are you? Thanks for waiting.
Me: Good thanks.
Connor: What's your name?
Me: Erm, Beckie with an i e not y.
Connor: Can I have a hug?
Me: Yeah! Sure.
Connor: Thanks bye.
Me: Bye
Me: Yeah! Sure.
Connor: Thanks bye.
Me: Bye
How socially awkward am I in these pressurised situations please. I can't promise that this was exactly what I said because it was just so unreal, you sort of forget everything since it was so fast and a bit of a blur! I'd really like to meet more YouTuber's at these events though. It's so surreal after watching these people on the internet for so long from (like Connor) America and then seeing them right in front of you, speaking to them; it's just proper weird. I loved it though.

Interested in Connor's book 'A Work in Progress' here's the synopsis in case you want an idea:
In this intimate memoir of life beyond the camera, Connor Franta shares the lessons he has learned on his journey from small-town boy to Internet sensation-so far. Here, Connor offers a look at his Midwestern upbringing as one of four children in the home and one of five in the classroom; his struggles with identity, body image, and sexuality in his teen years; and his decision to finally pursue his creative and artistic passions in his early twenties, setting up his thrilling career as a YouTube personality, philanthropist, entrepreneur, and tastemaker. Exploring his past with insight and humour, his present with humility, and his future with hope, Connor reveals his private struggles while providing heartfelt words of wisdom for young adults. His words will resonate with anyone coming of age in the digital era, but at the core is a timeless message for people of all ages: don't be afraid to be yourself and to go after what you truly want. This full-colour collection includes photography and childhood clippings provided by Connor and is a must-have for anyone inspired by his journey.
