Book Review: The Disreputable History of Frankie Landau-Banks by E.Lockhart

Before I actually sat down and started to read this book I'd been seeing it everywhere alongside E.Lockhart's other book We Were Liars. After We Were Liars was published in 2014 this book (published in 2008) as you would expect got a lot more attention, besides the interesting story lines and the tumblr style cover I think the titles of the books themselves are so intriguing because of there ambiguity.
I'd heard about this book through YouTube but to be quite honest I never really got the concept- I watched and read reviews and read the synopsis so many times but still never really could get to grips with what I'd be reading about, the only thing I knew was that this girl Frankie had some sort of shady history that she's recounting for the readers. Now, after reading the book I can't believe how complicated I thought it was but it is brilliant.
Frankie's going back to school after the summer she's really grown into her looks and gets a lot more attention from boys, when she returns to school she decides to take charge at her rich kid boarding school, to show everyone what she's capable of by manipulating the members of the all male secret society which had ran for generations. She tricks them into doing some ridiculous things, Frankie is challenging the idea that the school is ruled by the boys and is really standing up for the girls.
I loved this book because I think it's quite empowering, especially for girls, because sometimes we all feel undermined by the patriarchal society- even though our modern lives now aren't as drastically male dominated as in the past and, yes, rights are so much more equal however, in many aspects it could be argued that men do still have a lot more power. This book is reaching out to the young adults possibly trying to highlight this message or at least that's what I got from it.
Such a good read! Truly deserves the 4/5 stars it's received in the past, I don't know about any other girls that have this but I certainly admire Frankie's character a lot and hope I have a little bit of Frankie's strong mind, passion and determination in me.
