Film Review: Lucy
Sunday, September 14, 2014It's time for another one of my poor quality film reviews...YAY! Last week I went with the father to our local Odeon to watch a film (shocker) as we had a 2 for £10 voucher. I went not really quite sure what to watch but in the end went on to settle for Lucy.
Now I'll be honest, at first I wasn't sure what to make of it. I'd read the reviews and watched the trailer multiple times, not to mention the fact I believe that Morgan Freeman is basically just a legend and Scarlett Johannson has been on form for a while now but I just wasn't to sure about what the film was actually about. Lucy itself had been receiving ratings of 5/10 and above; described as ambitious and eccentric it didn't sound the best but I had to give it a try if not for my Black Widow Scarlett (I'm a major Marvel fan) then for Luc Besson who wrote and directed Lucy and one of my all time favourites 'Taken'.
Lucy is an action thriller full of woman power telling the story of Lucy the only human being able to tap into more than 10% of her brain power. We accompany Lucy on her journey discovering the power she has as her brain power increases, whilst we wonder what could possibly happen if she taps into 100%. It may be an action thriller but it did teach me a few science facts about our human development, these facts are thanks to Professor Norman (Freeman) who has studied the human brain for most of our life.
Johannson and Freeman portrayed their characters wonderfully! Personally I think Johannson's performance of Lucy was great; in Lucy I saw a determined, head strong, straight to the point woman. As usual Freeman well he can't fail.
The graphics and visual effects were phenomenal in their own right! Obviously Lucy, being able to tap into her brain and everything, had control over objects but there were effects in that film that amazed me. Round of applause!
I would advise a trip to see Lucy, definitely worth my 2 for £10 voucher! By the looks of the adverts before the film there's some new ones to keep your eye open for too! For now, here's the trailer for Lucy in case you're interested!
