Cory...One Year On
Sunday, July 13, 2014
Today is a sad day for a lot of fans around the world. It's the first anniversary of the death of the beloved Canadian glee actor Cory Monteith. 13th July 2013 millions of devastated fans heard the news that Cory had been found in his hotel room, it was too late for anything to be done.
I know it can be a touchy subject to mention that Cory's death was caused by drugs however I never understood why people made such a big fuss. We need to remember that yes, Cory was (and still is) an idol and inspiration to many kids and teenagers like myself, but he was also a normal man that clearly had been struggling and was dealing with his stuggles. Although some people tried to tarnish Cory's memory by saying things like he was a bad influence, children looked up to him and so on why didn't they admire Cory for his bravery? He was not ashamed to admit that in the past he had battled with drug abuse before and overcome it. The drugs never made him any less human or any less of the sweet, wonderful man we seen with Lea or on on screen as Finn.
Personally, I remember when I found out about his passing I cried. I wouldn't say he changed my life but he made me realise that I need to be more accepting of everyone around me. Early on in series one of glee I found about Cory's past and truthfully that made me love him even more. I think that the fact he'd worked so hard to get to where he was at that moment made him like a hero, he wasn't a kid who'd been handed fame on a plate.
Many people now need to embrace the fact that people who deal with major issues from drugs to mental illness SHOULD NOT BE JUDGED BUT APPLAUDED! Why? Their inner strength, perseverance, bravery, hard work goes into getting them out of the dark place they are. So maybe they go to rehab or hospitals but they have to want to get better, believe they can, have faith and that takes more guts than anything!
I know myself and certainly all the fans will always love and cherish Cory. Looking back, I can't imagine anyone to portray Finn Hudson better. Gleeks always come together when we need to, I have faith that every year on the 13th July we will all remember Cory as well as everyday that passes. To 'Our Quarterback' up there, wherever you are, just know you'll be remembered and missed always.
Guy's I just wanted to put Lea's speech in because honestly I just find it one of the most moving and honest tributes I've ever seen. I don't think we could of asked for a better one.
